"Death Valley and Beyond: A Portrait"
Photographs by Laurie Naiman

March 7 – 31, 2009

During my visits to the Death Valley area over the years, I’ve been attracted not only to the desert’s iconic dunes, dramatic skies and landscapes, but also to its less striking elements, such as deteriorating buildings and plant life, abandoned objects, and displaced animals.  I’ve approached these subjects with a focus on interest, design and sometimes irony. The prints I've chosen to display reflect my collective "portrait" of the area.

I hope my images convey some of this sense of discovery, and perhaps evoke your own curiosity to explore this fascinating corner of desert history.
